ILLUMINART PROJECT CASE STUDY: YARTA PURTLI PROJECTIONS

Yarta Purtli: Projection Art onto the Port Augusta Cultural Precinct during Desert Fringe, 2009

Projection artist Cindi Drennan was invited to create a new work for the opening night of the Desert Fringe in Port Augusta, in March 2009.

Working in partnership with local composer, Matthew Timmis, a three part show was created, commencing with a narrative projection art show mapped onto the Barrack Facade, followed by Car-Cophony (a multi-part stereo symphony played from multiple car stereos), and finale of projection art and fireworks.

The show was viewed by a seated audience in Gladstone Square, who then entered the venue for Fringe entertainment including music, comedy and live acts.

The projections were an acclaimed feature of the mini-festival.

The Yarta Purtli projections were made possible through funding by Country Arts SA Local Stages Initiative, and Babcock & Brown Sponsorship of the Desert Fringe in Port Augusta.
