ILLUMINART PROJECT CASE STUDY: WISH: Wish: Building as an illuminated storybook. Using music, story narration and beautiful image projection, a historic building becomes the backdrop, picture book, and characters of a gothic faery tale. First presented at the St Michaels Church, Wollombi, on the opening night of the Sculpture in the Vineyards festival 2007, Wish was co-written by Mark Hobby and Cindi Drennan. The audience sat on cushions apon the grass around the church, watching as the story unfolded apon the building, and as the building metamorphosed into different sets and characters of the story. As the story ended, dancers performed in the space, with the backdrop of "Voice of Light" previous projection art by Cindi Drennan. Wish, now in a new stage of development, has been devised as a small scale son et lumiere for intimate audiences, designed to be presented on small buildings in regional and remote Australian communities. Small churches have played key role in the colonial settlement of rural Australia, with churches also being community hall and local school for an area. Wish brings people together to appreciate historic architecture and where possible, members from the community will be invited to participate in performing roles within the show.
