The light pirates crew worked together with senior dancers of the Musical Theatre Company in Port Augusta to explore what kinds of dance and performance effects could be achieved within projection art. Some of this material was later incorporated into projection at events.

Appearing within the opening ceremony of Fringe @ Crossroads (Adelaide Fringe Festival in Port Augusta 2008) the Light Pirates project involved projection of site specific imagery and artwork onto the Western Bridge Pylons.

To enhance the festival club atmosphere, the Light Pirates set up a projection installation within the barracks. Video was used to project a synaesthetic live video accompaniment to Andy Killcross and other entertainers.

For the first part of the year, Light Pirates crew Ben Webb and Lucke Rogers captured as much of the Re-imagines program as possible on video. Some of this video was then encoded for web viewing.
Flinders Flicks
Commenced April 08
When the Light Pirates up and running it became possible to support a new community group called Flinders Flicks to start up a film society based in Quorn SA. Flinders Flicks has had screenings almost every month since then.

Projection of material already collected and compiled by The Light Pirates was projected onto the proscenium arch of the newly refurbished Institute Theatre at its inaugural public event. Why A Port? was presented by the State Library as their contribution to the Port Augusta Re-imagines program, and they also contributed an archive of historical photographs and references to incorporate into future projections.

A documentary about local artists was produced during June and July 2008, and then screened in a special presentation fo the local community at The Institute. The documentary was mixed live by the Light Pirates over three walls of the venue, offering multiple viewpoints of the same story.

Cindi Drennan was commissioned to provide Projection art support for “Drill” presented by Australian Dance Theatre at the Troopers Barracks and vicinity. This was supported by Light Pirates crew in particular Ben Webb who throughout the year has been brilliant in his various roles!

An experimental audiovisual event as part of the Port Augusta Film Festival, featuring the Light Pirates creating a visual mashup accompanied by some pumping rhythms from DJ Macca. A bit of work to set up, but it looked GREAT!
The Light Pirates project has now evolved into a small show which hopefully will hit the road at some stage... the Jive In Theatre...
And in future we hope to do some more large scale projections in Port Augusta... so WATCH THIS SPACE!
