Port Augusta as a location has a long history and is a melting pot of cultures and practices. The town has been the intersection of trade and transport routes since prehistoric times, right through pastoral and industrial times. While most people who live in the town have a sense that their town is a Gateway to the outback, and the Crossroads of Australia, it can be a difficult concept to convey in words or a single image.
This project has been developed by local artists and media makers (Aaron Stuart, Roger Drennan, Ben Webb, Lavene Ngatakorua & Cindi Drennan) and presents a story of Port Augusta, the town and region, in animated audiovisual layers.
Crossroads of Cultures will appear during 2008 at events including:
The project has been made possible through support of the Regional Arts Fund, Port Augusta City Council and the Northern Regional Development Board.
